Scholarships for Graduating Seniors

Welcome to your guide for scholarship opportunities through The Richardson ISD Foundation. Here you’ll find an overview of our scholarships, program timeline and link to the application portal. We’ll also share helpful tips and links to other trusted scholarships to support your journey.

Scholarship Overview & Criteria:

  • SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT: One (1) $2,500 scholarship

    SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
    The Alyssa Little Foundation Scholarship is awarded in memory of Alyssa Little, who graduated from JJ Pearce. Alyssa was an inspiration to everyone she met. This scholarship honors a graduating senior from JJ Pearce High School.

    SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:                            
    • Minimum GPA of 2.50.
    • Student must be a full-time student at a two- or four-year accredited college or university.
    • Full name and email address of two (2) people who will provide a recommendation. One recommendation
    must be from a teacher or counselor.
    • Award based on a combination of financial need, academic performance, personal character, and outside
    activities such as work, volunteer service, etc.
    • This scholarship is non-renewable.
    Additional Required Essay Topic:

    1. How do you personally contribute to your community, and why is that important?

     

  • SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT: One (1) $8,000 scholarship

    SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
    The Anderson Bonner Endowment Scholarship is named for former slave and extensive North Dallas landowner Anderson Bonner. Mr. Bonner amassed nearly 2,000 acres of land in the Richardson School District by selling the produce he and his family raised on their farms. Mr. Bonner greatly valued education.

    AWARD: One (1) $8,000 scholarship will be awarded to one student. The total award amount will be distributed in equal installments of $1,000 per semester over four academic years, contingent upon the recipient maintaining eligibility requirements.

    SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
    • Minimum GPA of 2.75.
    • Student must attend Prairie View A&M University full-time with a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
    • Full name and email address of two (2) people who will provide a recommendation. One recommendation
    must be from a teacher or counselor.
    • This scholarship is non-renewable.

  • SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNTS:
    • One (1) $500 scholarship to a graduating senior in AVID from Berkner High School
    • One (1) $500 scholarship to a graduating senior in AVID from Lake Highlands High School
    • One (1) $500 scholarship to a graduating senior in AVID from Pearce High School
    • One (1) $500 scholarship to a graduating senior in AVID from Richardson High School

    SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
    The Dr. Carolyn G. Bukhair AVID Scholarship was named in honor of Dr. Carolyn G. Bukhair. Dr. Bukhair served as superintendent of RISD for many years. As superintendent, she was instrumental in bringing the AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) program to Richardson. This scholarship recognizes graduating seniors from L.V. Berkner, Lake Highlands, J.J. Pearce, and Richardson high schools who have demonstrated success in the AVID program.

    SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
    • Minimum GPA of 2.50.
    • Students must have participated in the AVID program for at least two years.
    • Students must attend an accredited college, university, community college, technical or trade school.
    • Award based on a combination of financial need, academic performance, and personal character.
    • Full name and email address of two (2) people who will provide a recommendation.
    • This scholarship is non-renewable.

  • SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNTS:
    • One (1) $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from Berkner High School
    • One (1) $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from Lake Highlands High School
    • One (1) $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from Pearce High School
    • One (1) $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from Richardson High School

    SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
    The Fujitsu Network Communications STEM Scholarship was created to encourage students who have completed and excelled in four years of STEM classes in Richardson ISD to continue their education in a college or university.

    SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
    • Minimum GPA of 3.50.
    • Students must have taken four years in any combination of science, technology, engineering, and/or math classes passing with a grade of B+ or higher.
    • Students must be entering a two- or four-year college or university and major in a STEM field.
    • Award based on a combination of financial need, academic performance, and personal character.
    • Full name and email address of two (2) people who will provide a recommendation. NOTE: One reference must be from a STEM teacher you have taken.
    • Fujitsu will choose recipients of the scholarship awards based on a combination of factors, such as academic performance, essay submissions, recommendations, personal character, and financial need.
    • This scholarship is non-renewable.

  • SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT: One (1) $1,500 scholarship

    SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
    This $1,500.00 scholarship is offered by the National Council of Jewish Women-Greater Dallas Section (NCJW-Dallas) to students where his or her family participated in the HIPPY program for 2 years when the student was age 3, 4 and/or 5 years old.  If you are applying for this Scholarship, then you are aware that Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) is an evidenced-based program that works with families in their home to support parents in their critical role as their child's first and, of course, most important teacher.  The scholarship will be sent directly to the college of your choice once you are enrolled in college, or you may choose a computer or other educational items that you will need.

    SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
    • Minimum GPA of 2.50.
    • Former HIPPY preschool student who participated in HIPPY for two (2) or three (3) years.
    • Student must be a full-time student at a two-year or four-year accredited college or university.
    • Full name and email address of two (2) people who will provide a recommendation. One recommendation must be from a teacher or counselor.
    • Award based on a combination of financial need, academic performance, and personal character.
    • This scholarship must be used within 1 year of graduating high school

      • For HIPPY and NCJW, what did YOU find to be the most surprising or interesting and why?

      • Why do you think NCJW chose to make a commitment to HIPPY?

      • How has HIPPY had an impact on your family?

     

  • SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT: One (1) $1,000 scholarship

    SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
    Janet Bliss Mello was a teacher with Richardson ISD for 24 years, teaching at Yale and Hamilton Park Elementary Schools and in the Gifted & Talented Program. Her calling in life was education, and she worked passionately and tirelessly to improve learning for children. This scholarship is intended to help a student who qualifies to attend a four-year college or university and pursue a degree and career in education.

    SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
    • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
    • Student must attend a four-year accredited college or university with the intended purpose of becoming a
    teacher.
    • Full name and email address of two (2) people who will provide a recommendation. One
    recommendation must be from a teacher or counselor.
    • This scholarship is non-renewable.
    • Award is based on a combination of financial need, academic performance, and personal character.

  • SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNTS: One (1) $500 scholarship

    SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
    The Richardson Art Teacher Society established this scholarship in honor of former RISD Art Coordinator and art teacher Kay Savay. One (1) scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from any of the four Richardson ISD high schools whose stated goal is to study the visual arts.

    SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
    • Minimum GPA of 2.50.
    • Students must attend a two or four-year accredited college or university full-time and major in an area of
    Visual Arts.
    • Students must turn in a flash drive of their portfolio to their art teacher to be sent to the committee for
    review.
    • Award based on a combination of financial need, academic performance, and personal character.
    • Full name and email address of two (2) people who will provide a recommendation.
    • This scholarship is non-renewable.

  • SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNTS: Two (2) $1,000 scholarships

    SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
    Tessa Birdine Pettigrew graduated from Berkner High School in the Class of 1995 and went on to further her education at the University of North Texas. She faced many obstacles over the course of her life, but her belief in the power of education never wavered. Mrs. Pettigrew had a transformative in her community. She mentored and coached young adults to help them find their passion, path and purpose. Mrs. Pettigrew guided them and empowered them to believe that they could achieve their dreams. This scholarship, honoring her legacy, will support two Berkner High School graduating seniors pursuing post-secondary education.


    SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
    • Minimum GPA of 2.50.
    Scholarship funds must be used for tuition and fees or books at an accredited college, university, community college, technical or trade school OR for professional licensing.
    • Full name and email address of two (2) people who will provide a recommendation. One recommendation
    must be from a teacher or counselor.
    • Award based on a combination of financial need, academic performance, personal character, and outside
    activities such as work, volunteer service, etc.
    • This scholarship is non-renewable.
